Description

To some people, the Looney Toons cast has been placed on the back shelf in favour of newer cartoons such as Spongebob Squarepants and other Nickelodeon franchises. And while to an extent this is true as far as daytime TV is concerned, Bugs Bunny and co are still making waves both on the big screen and in video games with the release of Looney Tunes: Back in Action. The PS2 version of the 3D platformer, based on the film of the same name, is geared very much towards a young target audience. It pits players as the infamous Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in a vibrant world of familiar cartoon locales, littered with myriad ACME apparatus and gimmicks. A thoroughbred platform game, players will control both characters throughout the game, mixing and matching Bugs and Daffy's unique abilities in order to progress further into the game and ultimately hunt down the mysterious Blue Monkey Diamond. With regards to game design, Back in Action is accomplished, blending classic platforming action with some very clever puzzle elements. Some areas of Back in Action's six themed locales can prove tricky, but the game's challenges don't serve to frustrate players, but to encourage them. Overall, this new Looney Tunes offering is very much like any other platformer, whereby players will be charged with the task of jumping chasms and hunting down a wealth of collectibles. This offering from developer Warthog is perhaps the best Looney Tunes outing yet. And with familiar cartoon environments and appearances from just about the entire cast of Looney Tunes, Back in Action is sure to be a hit.
