Description

Freedom Fighters is based on an alternative history, a fictional world which differs from the one we know in only a handful of vital historical events. In the latter months of the second World War, the Soviets succeeded in developing the hydrogen bomb, beating the American challenge. By bringing the war in Europe to a quick and violent end, they tipped the balance of world power decisively in their favour. The Soviets went on to dominate Europe and large parts of the Middle East. The United States remained the world's largest country free from Soviet influence, but technological development was sluggish and the US lacked the sheer numbers and hi-tech development power of the Soviet forces. During the Cold War that followed, the Soviets gradually expanded their influence. They were invited to Cuba by Fidel Castro to install missile silos in the country, and they generously provided military advisors to Central America, and in 1996, there came the surprising and hotly disputed victory of the Mexican Communist Party in the government election. Slowly, and with a grim inevitability, the Soviet Union was encircling the United States. Freedom Fighters centres on the activities of plumber Christopher Stone and his band of rebels. Stone loves his country and is not prepared to stand by and watch the hard times and hardline come down on his New York neighbourhood. Soviet submarines have surfaced in the harbour and the streets are overrun with Communist invaders and their engines of war. Soviet flags are flying all over the city, and Stone's home environment looks like it's done for. You have the chance to fight against the odds and show some true New York fighting spirit, as you assume the role of Christopher Stone, recruit a band of rebel fighters, and go kick some Commie bottom! Now, giving the Soviets a pasting is pretty difficult when you're armed with just a plumbing wrench, so picking up extra, more powerful weapons is essential as you progress through the game. There are four difficulty levels available in
