Description
MTV is a channel known primarily for its music and music-related documentaries, but it also has a neat sideline in animated series. Witness the likes of Ren & Stimpy and Beavis & Butthead. With Celebrity Deathmatch among the latest and greatest shows on MTV, it comes as no surprise that the frenzied beat-em-up is bound for the PS2 console. A faithful representation of the animated equivalent, Celebrity Deathmatch allows players to take control of and even dismember as many as 15 of TV's most well known personalities. As a game, Celebrity Deathmatch is very much a simple, uncomplicated beat-em-up. Fighting your enemies in a variety of locations, players must, at a basic level, simply punch and kick their opponents to death. The ability to pick up and throw telephone booths with Mr T does make things more interesting and there is also a variety of wrestling moves available to inflict upon your opponents. Visually, the game world and its inhabitants also remain faithful to the TV original. The simple, plasticine-like characters remain intact for this virtual outing, and roam around a variety of sparse 3D environments. It's not the most astounding game to look at, but it gets the job done. Celebrity Deathmatch is a light-hearted experience, not to be taken seriously. All you have to do is to knock your enemy for six and have fun whilst doing it.
