Description

Namco's Ace Combat series is possible the most venerable of all aviation combat games. The first console version came out in 1995 on the original the Sony Playstation, and since then there have been a host of versions on PlayStation and PS2... but Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception marks the series' debut on PSP. The same thrills that users may be familiar with from PS2 version is carried over to Sony's shiny handheld... and the conversion works wonderfully. The smaller screen makes the graphics look better than ever, and the PSP handles the 3D graphics with aplomb. As with previous games in the series, Skies of Deception centres around mission-based aerial combat. After selecting your plane and equipping it with missiles you take to the skies in search of foreign bogeys. Once they are in your sites, you chase them down and loose a volley of laser guided missiles at them. Then repeat until the mission is complete. Occasionally, your mission is punctuated with the need to attack some ground based targets - and if you've chosen the correct ordnance at mission start - you'll be able to do this with ease. if, however, you didn't pay attention during the mission briefing, you'll have a fruitless and trustrating time until you get shot to bits, and start again with better chosen weaponry. All in all, it's fine fun. And if you have friends with PSPs, you'll be able to take them on in co-operative and competitive scenarios using ad-hoc wireless network play. When your friends aren't around, you can hone your skills on 15 all new maps created specifically for this version.
