Description

There are very few pinball games available for the PS2 platform. Perhaps it's because some of you would prefer emptying your pockets down at the local arcade on a real table. But for those who would rather play a free table (after the initial outlay, of course) there are video games. And with that in mind, Ubisoft bring us Flipnic. Though pinball simulators are largely one and the same, it's creative table design that sets each of them apart. Pinball Fantasies was among the most memorable of pinball games for that reason, and Flipnic is likely to be remembered in the same way. Taking table design to a new level, Flipnic pits players in an adventure of sorts, in which objectives must be met on each of the tables to progress deeper into the game. Game 'environments' and themes are incredibly varied, and include jungle, techno and metal-based tables. Whilst scoring as best you can, you simply have to complete the varying missions the tables set you to progress. From a technical standpoint, it seems every pinball game in the world blows its own trumpet, boasting “the most realistic ball physics in the world... ever”. And in some cases, ball physics are remarkable accurate. The same is true of Flipnic. Although on the surface the game's approach to pinball simulation may come across as light-hearted, underneath lies a solid pinball game that rivals anything else in the genre.
