Description

Superman, as you might have guessed, has returned. As well as making appearances on the big and small screens, Supes is coming to the tiny screen for the GBA. Players take on the role of Metropolis's recently returned guardian to protect the city from a plethora of evil lurking on its streets (and, on occasion, in its skies). In the past, Superman games have been a tad on the awkward side. Not that we can pile too much blame on the programmers, mind you. Making a bevy of powers that includes flight, super-strength, super-speed, heat vision, arctic breath, x-ray vision (and a bunch of others too legion to list here) work and play well is no mean feat. To deal with this, EA has taken a rather non-traditional tack for a property like Superman on the GBA. Rather than trying to port one of the console versions of the game, they've pitted Superman against a rogues gallery in a series of interlocking mini-games. In keeping with Nintendo's philosophy of accessibility, this makes the title very easy to play in short bursts and keeps the gameplay varied. Players must complete a variety of tasks, such as using Supes' powers to complete Sudoku-style puzzles or defeating super-villains in epic battles. Players can also unlock hidden content by completing Superman Returns movie puzzles. Oh, and did we mention the baddies? Well, yes. But we can't help but mention them again. Expect (amongst others) Parasite (a purple power-draining fella), Metallo (giant-robot-type with a kryptonite heart), Mr Mxyzptlk (just try and pronounce it) and of course the nefarious (yes, that's right, nefarious) Lex Luthor. Each and every one of them will try to ruin your day. Try not to let it worry you though; you are Superman, after all.
