Description
For many console gamers, their first slice of four player action on a home games system was Hudson's Bomberman, played on a SNES using a multitap. The highly addictive and simple gameplay allowed players to each take control of a different coloured bomberman, and, in a last man standing scenario, lay bombs that explode a few seconds later, hoping to trap and blow up an opponent, while at the same time avoiding being neutralised by the bombs of others, of even your own bombs in a horrendous self-friendly fire misadventure incident. A wide selection of power-ups made gameplay get more frenetic as each round progressed. Players could gain the ability to punch and kick bombs at opponents, speed up, and look out for the much-coveted walk through walls and remote control bomb power-ups. More than a decade later, a piece of Nintendo hardware once again lends itself to the awesome execution of this fiendish and un-put-downable title, the wireless-enabled DS handheld. Published by Ubisoft, this outing supports wi-fi play for up to 8 players! The new version stretches gameplay across both the screens of the DS console, with warp tunnels (where you can lay bombs) connecting the two screens. All the original power-ups are featured and more besides, providing familiar content that it's easy to get to grips with as well as nice developments - the remote control bombs, for example, are now detonated via voice command into the system's microphone instead of a tap of a button. Familiar and frenetic at once, Bomberman DS will excite owners of the console with its promise of classic multiplayer fun.
